Bloggers' Quilt Festival: My entry "Something Blue"

Welcome, Blogger's Quilt Festival visitors! I want to share a quilt I made for my BFF Alisha, for her wedding gift. (Yes, I blogged it a few months ago.)

When I seen this fabric, I screamed Alisha to me.

Aqua, Brown and Orange
Backing is white linen
Binding is aqua
Hand-quilted (with love!)

You would never know by looking at these pictures that it's ~124* outside!

The label is my favorite part of this quilt! It says "Something Blue ~ made for my best friend on her wedding day. june 25, 2011 <3 robin"

And there it is... ready to be shipped off to a buffalo ranch in Montana.

A few weeks ago my Sister Velvet, Carson and I watched my nephew Bryce while my Bro and Sis-in-law had a little retreat to San Fran. We had such a great time! Spending time with Bryce is reward enough, but a few days after we got home I got a thank you card in the mail with a gift card to DSW!!! Bonus!

Two years ago today, this lovely child was born...

I absolutely adore this child!

This picture was taken at the rodeo,

Iron County Fair in September.

Bryce is the perfect baby, here's why:

Sleeps like an Angel, put him in his crib with Rhino

and he doesn't make a peep till morning.

Has a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.

Goes with the flow and he's happy with whoever he is with.

SMART! This baby can read, yes r.e.a.d. read!

He has watched Your Baby Can Read since birth.

His Mommy is a Master Teacher and works with him,

right now he is learning his x2's, yes his times tables!

He loves his Aunt Bub.

Alisha and Aaron's Wedding Quilt

So, I've been a little dry on the project postings lately and this is why...

I've been working on this beauty :).

I started on Alisha's wedding quilt around the first of March.

I was so concerned about keeping this project a secret from my BFF, that I guess I didn't take any pictures of the construction (other than these two).

Zoey wants to lay on it, can you blame her?

This post has been in "draft" because she follows my blog (prob the only person LOL!) so I couldn't share till she had it in her hot little hand.

Wish I would have taken another pic after the sun had set, but here it is the magic hanging sideways quilt (can't get the pic to rotate :(!)

I was honored to give my Best Friend Forever her Bridal Shower

First off, the invitations... everyone got one of these in the mail.

you can't read the tags very well in the picture, but they say
"Alisha's Bridal Shower"

and the bottom of the box of the tea pot kitchen timer, it says

"Time for Tea"

Too bad I didn't get a pic of the address label... they has a little tea cup on them (of course!)

Everyone at the shower got a homemade apron...

(These are SO FUN & easy to make, they are made from a dish towel)

My super talented sister Velvet made these flower arrangements for the shower (thanks Vel!)

I was going for the "vintage tea party" theme and the outter arrangements are in tin can's.

The middle one is in a milk glass vase I found at my local Bullhead City thrift store for $2!

Happy Birthday to ME!

We were on our way to birthday dinner at Samari (a new sushi/teppin grill resturant), we pulling out of our gate as G-pa Charlie was pulling in. Carson exclamed, "Tonight's Grandpa and I's Wipe-Out Party". (Wipe-Out is that show on TV that people get absolutly tortured in obstacle courses) Carson had forgot he made plans with G-pa, so he went with him and we went to dinner :).

This is my birthday sunset, from our backyard. I <3 the desert!

You're never too old to get dolls for your birthday...

This is my 1st Blythe doll.

For those of you that aren't farmiliar, Blythe dolls are from China (the box is all in Chinese). They are quite pricey (from $100-several thousand)

This doll is "Simply Guava", she's AWESOME :) I LOVE HER!

They have a cord on the back of their neck you pull to change their eyes... see below

Saturday night we went to the 3rd Annual Colorado River Boat Parade

1st annual: Me, Ken & Carson went and there were about 5 boats

2nd annual: I was in St George with Dad for his open heart surgery

3rd annual: SO MUCH FUN!... see for yourself :)

Sewing desk refrub...

Ken was out of town on business & I went thrift store shopping.

I saw this & the man at this really bad thrift store wanted $10.

I didn't get it... When Ken got home I told him about it and he said,

"how can something not be worth $10?" We went back and bought it.

Washed & sanded it...

Glued all the joints back together...

Primed and painted....

It's cream with black drawer handles (the handles are original,

they are really cool, you can't see them very good in the pic)

also, the pic doesn't do the drawer lining justice...

I cut cardboard 1/4 inch smaller in length & width, covered with

warm & natural batting, then black velvet. It's beautiful!

It's the perfect height to sew on. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

It's true... how can something not be worth $10?

This morning I took my dogs (Sadie 120 lb Great Dane and Zoey 15 lb Dashund) on a walk the long way through the desert to take my Dad the Mohave Daily News and the Las Vegas Review Journal. I put the newspapers, my keys and a Gatorade in a plactic sack, I thought about using my fanny pack, but decided not to. I was almost to their house and my Gatorade feel out of a hole in the bottom of the bag... I looked in the bag and my keys, GONE! Thank goodness my neighbor had a key to my house. Took the dogs home and me, Mom and Dad combed the desert. We found my keys! CRAZY!!! Mom and Dad took me for a Coke and a donut and said they wanted to go on a walk in the desert today anyway :) I love them, I am so lucky to have them down here!

Carson's 8th Birthday Party & 4th of July

Celebrate!... This year Carson had a Tony Hawk party. For 2 years now we've held Carson's "friend" party on the 4th of July. I guess you could call it "killing 2 birds with 1 stone", we have the best view in town for the fireworks. This year we had about 25 people. Great food, great friends, and great fun :)

Craft table: The kids (and me) made skateboard necklaces. I ordered paintable/markerable (that's not a word, but that's what we did to them) skateboards fron Oriental Trading Company, all colored beads, and string. They were ~~cute~~ cool!

The kids were in the pool from 5:00 pm till I'm gonna guess ~11:00 pm. Carson's Aunt Heidi and

Aunt Velvet gave him the Floating Castle for his birthday... It was the hit of the patry!

I feel like I need a vaca! This trip is old news, but definitely worth posting. I had the opportunity to attend my company's Presidents Club trip. I took my BFF Alisha and off to Jamaica we went! We stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Rose-Hall... amazing! Anything we wanted to eat, drink, spa treatments everyday, excursions, you name it-paid for! I work for the greatest company EVER! Thanks First American!

Carson's 6th Birthday Party!!!

This year Carson choose a "Hot Wheel Party" Everyone knows how Carson LOVES Hot Wheels! My house has been taken over by them, last time we counted, we had over 200. I believe the oldest one we have is 1972! Very cool!

I love you Carson! We had soo much fun with all our friends. We played games, built red Chevy truck's (thanks Lowe's), ate pizza & cake and opened lots of presents!

1st day of 1st grade... that only happens once!

My Baby!!! I was totally OK with kindergarten, but 1st grade... that's so big (and speaking of big, look at that backback. It looks like a billboard on his back LOL! It's Speed Racer!) Carson was so excited, he has an AWESOME teacher. His name is Mr. Schwartzkopf, he is such a nice man and guess what... he's magic! Carson makes me laugh so hard. He said he hoped Mr. Schwartzkopf would make all the schools disappear. I told Carson he is so lucky, I didn't have a guy teacher till the 4th grade. You are going to have a great year Buddy!
